Clients of NCPDP / CEDAP

In the course of past two decades NCPDP and its principal office bearers have worked for a variety of clients directly and indirectly as listed below.

International Development Aid Organizations

    We took up projects aimed at vulnerability reduction through Capacity Building funded by various organizations including those listed below.

  • The World Bank (Indirect) – In the aftermath of Kutchch Earthquake a unique program of Capacity Building was taken up with the funding from the World Bank
  • The Asian Development Bank (Indirect) – In the aftermath of Chomoli Earthquake and Kutchch Earthquake programs were taken up for the Capacity Building of the State Governments for Disaster Management and Mitigation
  • UNDP India – In the aftermath of Kutchch Earthquake programs of Sensitization of Government Functionaries and of designing the awareness materials was taken up.
  • UNDP India – Prepared manuals to guide contractors and engineers in the construction of disaster resistant buildings, and also for training of artisans in such technologies.
  • UNESCO – Prepared a detailed manual on retrofitting of buildings in Kashmir aimed at engineers.
  • UNDP Nepal – In the aftermath of Nepal Earthquake prepared a technology package most viable for reconstruction, especially in the remote hill areas and got it approved by the government for use in government supported reconstruction programs. Also prepared a manual for retrofitting of vulnerable existing buildings in Nepal.
  • UNCRD & EDM, Kobe, Japan – In the aftermath of Kutchch Earthquake a confidence building program was taken up to demonstrate the effectiveness of the earthquake resisting building technologies through the use of shock table.

Government Institutions

    We have worked with a variety of government institutions including the following

  • Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority – We took up a variety of projects for GSDMA in the aftermath of the Kutchch Earthquake including Design of Earthquake safety Awareness Materials, On-site Training of Earthquake Engineers, Sensitization of Village Level Government Functionaries, and Capacity Building for Long Term Disaster Preparedness in 478 villages.
  • Disaster Management and Mitigation Centre of Uttaranchal State – We took up Disaster Resistance Assessment Studies of the Vernacular Building Technologies in the State, Capacity Building Program for the Government Functionaries in all 13 districts of the State, Demonstration of Retrofitting of Masonry Structures in all 13 districts, and Design of all Earthquake Safety Awareness Materials.
  • Project Management Unit – Maharashtra Emergency Earthquake Rehabilitation Program – In the aftermath of the Latur earthquake the principal office bearers of NCPDP undertook design of earthquake safety awareness materials, On-site Training of 650 government Engineers, and Retrofitting of 150 houses.

Semi-Government Institutions

  • Building Material & Technology Promotion Council (BMTPC), Government of India – We took up various projects including (a) Post Kutchch Earthquake Rapid Damage Assessment for estimating the cost of damage and reconstruction and retrofitting including the development of disaster resistant building technologies, (b) Repair, Retrofitting and Restoration of a 125 years old heritage building housing the government offices, police station and the treasury vault, (c) Retrofitting of masonry Public Buildings in the state of Gujarat, and (d) Design of detailed Earthquake Manual for Uttaranchal State for repair, retrofit and reconstruct vernacular structures.

NGOs

    We have worked with NGOs in a variety of ways. Its principle role has been of providing technical support for a variety of programs.

  • TARU Leading Edge, New Delhi – In the aftermath of Chomoli Earthquake in 1999 and Kutchch Earthquake in 2001 we associated with TARU to take up Rapid Damage Assessment for the Government of India as well as the formulation of technology packages for reconstruction.
  • Bhansali Trust – North Gujarat, India – In the aftermath of Kutchch Earthquake it provided technical support for (a) planning, designing and reconstructing four relocated quake affected villages in Kutchch, (b) retrofitting of Trust’s own schools, (c) retrofitting of over 600 daycare centres, (d) retrofitting 12 government aided high schools, and (e) reconstructing 16 government aided high schools in Kutchch.
  • SAATH Trust – Ahmedabad, India – In the aftermath of Kutchch Earthquake we provided full technical support for re-housing 120 quake affected families in Rapar town of Kutchch through planning, design and execution of the construction.
  • Several NGOs – Provided technical training to the staff of the NGO, and masons working in the area of operation of the NGO for disaster resistant construction and seismic retrofitting
