Kashmir House

Earthquake Resistant Stone-Earth-Timber House with RC Bands

This design is for an affordable earthquake resistant house in the area where stone is the principal construction material. RC Bands at multiple levels along with the vertical reinforcement at the junction of walls, plus the encasement of wall openings bring earthquake resistance. Masonry is built in mud mortar. Cement is used for structural purpose in bands and for encasing the vertical reinforcements. Use of mud mortar helps in reducing the cost, also reducing the water requirement. In post disaster situation, the debris consisting of stone could be used to construct the walls of this house.
