Low Cost Earthquake Resistant Stone-Earth-Timber House with Containment Reinforcement

This design is for a very low cost earthquake resistant house in the area where stone is the principal construction material. Low walls help reduce the cost and time. Steep pitched roof provides ample headroom even next to the wall. Containment Reinforcement system for earthquake resistance consists of vertical GI wires anchored to the wall and to the timber wall plate at top. No cement is used for structural purpose such as in mortar or bands. Elimination of cement not only greatly reduces the cost, but also radically simplifies the logistics since it eliminates the need for sand, aggregates and water. This design can also be used for building mid-term shelters in post disaster situation soon after the disaster.
