Disaster Resilient Construction & Retrofitting

Technologies for Sustainability, Viability and Disaster Risk Reduction

Technology is irrelevant in isolation. In addition to the technical attributes, every technology has many other attributes including social, economic, geographical, climatic, environmental etc. Harmony with most number of attributes will ensure the success of a technology.

NCPDP-CEDAP and Technology

With its principal focus on “Shelter”, NCPDP-CEDAP since its inception has been working on the development and promotion of technologies for shelter, water, sanitation and energy in order to, among other objectives, reduce peoples’ hardship, improve the quality of life, generate local employment and improve the local economy.

As a result the selection of technology has been dictated by the principal considerations of…

  • How replicable it is by its potential users?
  • How it could be adapted in prevalent scenario?
  • How affordable it is for its potential users?
  • How great the home-owner’s contribution can be against its price-tag?
  • How culturally appropriate it is in the target community?
  • What potential it has for generating local employment?
  • How sustainable it is in the given context?
  • How eco-friendly it is?
